THE PROGRESS PROJECT BY HYUNDAI SUPPORTS BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES

  • The Progress Project by Hyundai Provides Financial Support to Local Businesses Near Hyundai’s U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Montgomery, Alabama

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 2, 2022 – In recognition of Black History Month, Hyundai Motor America is launching The Progress Project by Hyundai, an initiative to support Black-owned businesses in Montgomery, Alabama. Starting this month, Hyundai will be making donations of $15,000 each to three local businesses.

“Our U.S. manufacturing facility is proud to call Montgomery home. Montgomery is a city rich in culture and a cornerstone in the civil rights movement,” said Dana White, chief communications officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “The pandemic has been particularly hard for small businesses and as a member of this vibrant community Hyundai wants to help these businesses grow and thrive.”

Team members at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama nominated local Black-owned businesses for the project. The three businesses selected were:

  • King’s Canvas: An art and social justice organization whose mission is to provide opportunity and access to underexposed artists. The organization will create an outdoor gathering space to host community events, neighborhood art walks, and more.
  • Plant Bae: A female-owned vegan restaurant that is a staple in the downtown community. The restaurant will make aesthetic and interior modifications to elevate the look of the restaurant.
  • Jozettie’s Cupcakes: A family-run bakery and local favorite with a long history of also giving back to the community. The bakery will expand the capabilities at its second location.

The stories of these businesses will be covered on Hyundai’s social media channels beginning this month. Hyundai plans to expand the project to other markets and businesses as part of its corporate social responsibility programming.
