HMMA DONATES $5,000 IN SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO MONTGOMERY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

MONTGOMERY, AL – May 20, 2025 – In recognition of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama’s (HMMA) 20 years of automotive production in Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey has issued a formal commendation celebrating the company’s economic impact, job creation, and commitment to excellence in the state.

Since its grand opening on May 20, 2025, HMMA has built 6.2 million vehicles, employed over 4,000 team members, and helped grow Alabama into a national leader in automotive manufacturing. The governor’s commendation highlights HMMA’s sustained contributions to the state’s economy and praises the partnership between the company and the people of Alabama.

“Hyundai’s 20th anniversary in Montgomery is the perfect time to reflect on the remarkable impact this partnership has had on our community and the entire state of Alabama,” said Alabama Secretary of Commerce Ellen McNair. “From the moment Hyundai chose Montgomery as the home for its U.S. manufacturing plant, it has been a transformational engine, providing an economic impact of well over $5 billion annually to the Alabama economy in addition to thousands of well-paying jobs for our citizens.  As someone who had the privilege of working alongside the dedicated team that helped bring Hyundai to Alabama, it has been incredibly rewarding to witness this transformation firsthand.  We are immensely proud and honored to be the home of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama plant, and we pledge our continued support.”

HMMA President and CEO Mark Rader expressed appreciation for the honor and emphasized the importance of the company’s relationship with state and local partners.

“On behalf of our 4,200 team members, HMMA is honored and deeply grateful to Governor Ivey for her formal commendation to HMMA for its 20th anniversary and its contributions to Alabama’s economy, workforce and future over the past two decades,” said Rader. “Through the talent and resilience of our HMMA team and our close partnerships with the state of Alabama, our region’s cities and communities, and our Alabama-based suppliers, I am confident that the next 20 years of HMMA’s history will be as successful and exciting as the last.”

The commendation comes as HMMA marks a milestone this year, celebrating 20 years since its first vehicle rolled off the production line in May 2005. The anniversary was also commemorated with an on-site HMMA team member family event. To further honor the milestone,  Genesis Gives, the corporate social responsibility initiative from Genesis Motor America, presented Alabama State University with a $50,000 donation, and the Genesis Inspiration Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to supporting education through the arts, presented the Alabama Shakespeare Festival with a $50,000 grant during the event.
